THE NEW ZEALAND AND SOUTH SEAS EXHIBITION.
WOMEN’S SECTION. At- the meeting of the Executive Committee of the Women’s Section of the New Zealand and South Seas Exhibition, held last week, a great amount of business was transacted. The various conimittees are now being formed and settling down to work. The prospectus of the section is now available, and the Exhibits Committee on Arts and Applied Arts was able to report that much work had been put in by its sub committees in order that overseas exhibitors receive all possible information con- ( cerning the kind of exhibits to be accepted within the section. Lady Ferguson assured the executive ‘hat her committee was determined that a fine display of work would be forthcoming. The report of the Hospitality Committee by Mrs Tapley revealed' the fact that many Dunedin women will bo ready to gardens for parties or entertain at tea and by motor drives the wonter. who come as guests of our city. The Chairwoman of the Special Works Committee reported that she was collecting information and drawing up a list of subjects which might be suitable for special competitions. It was suggested that as long as three weeks be the period for some of these competitions. Mrs Macdonald expressed the hope that this special branch of the section would pay for itself, and so asked that each branch of the section keep its own accounts. In response to a request from the main Housing Committee, it was decided to form a housing committee of women, whose special object would be to promote the proper housing of women and girl visitors to the Exhibition. Miss Riuiciman is chairwoman of this committee. Reports that the other committees were settling to work were received with satisfaction. At the invitation of the Wireless Station 4YA, Mrs Ross and Miss Begg consented to speak on the activities of the women’s section. A Finance Committee was set up to administer the expenses and make plans for raising funds for the carrying on of the section It was agreed by all present that plans for the section could not be definjtely made until the amount of space available was definitely decided by the directors. Applications for space within the section were being received, and the details of much more business was relegated to the various committees for reports.
