ASSOCIATION FOOTBALL.
OTAGO ASSOCIATION. The usual weekly meeting of the executive of the Otago Football Association was held last evening, Mr H. J. Duncan being in the chair. GENERAL. Post and Telegraph Club’s request for fhe use of a room in the new pavilion on the Oval for Tuesday and Thursday evenings for practice was left in the hands of the secretary. The Southern Club advised that it would be inconvenient for them to undertake the marking out of Culling Park during the 1925 season.—Received, and it was decided to ask permission from the St. Killit Council to have the lines cut. The Southland Football Association not! ■ fied that W. R. Cooper had been granted a transfer to the Seacliff Club. —Noted. TRANSFERS. The following additional transfers were applied for: — I. The Ravensbourne Association Football Club's application for the transfer of Messrs R. Ferguson, L. Ferguson, L. Preston, A. Sutherland, and'A. M'Allan receiver at a previous meeting was the subject of a letter from the Southern Club. The latter club pointed out. that should the transfers be granted they wonld.be compelled to withdraw their Second Grade team owing to the fact that there would be insufficient Second Grade players. left to carry i on. In the case of Preston the dun had no objection to offer, but did in the case of the other four, who were all residents of Southern’s district, and in doing so took advantage of rule 16 of the club, which reads; “That any member wishing to leave the club shall forward his resignation in writing to the bon. secretary before the annual meeting, otherwise his subscription for that year shall be considered due.” The secretary added further that his committee regards with disfavour such Iransfers, and considers that it is unfair and not with reason that clubs should tie encouraged or allowed to build up strong teams at the expense of other clubs. The matter was fully discussed, and eventually Mr Hall’s motion that Southern be notified that the executive has no power to stop a players' transfer if he is financial with his club was carried. A further motion by Mr Hall—“ That a copy of the association’s rules he sent to the Ravensbourne Club, and their attention drawn t« rule 12 of cup competitions” was also carried. GRADING OF TEAMS. The Secretary reported that 52 teams (on increase of seven on last year’s total) had ’been entered for the competitions covering (Jie five grades. The committee appointed to form, a scheme for the carrying out of the First Grade competition submitted the following idea: —Qualifying round: Nine teams to play one complete round. Then the four leading teams to form an “A” division, the remaining teams a “B” division. When making the division, where two teams are equal in cup points, tlie team with the better goal average will lie placed in the “A” division. In the “A” division the cup can only be won outright where a team has a lead of two or more cup points, otherwise a final must be played. Charity Cup to be played for between the winners of the "A” and “B” divisions. On the whole the scheme met with the general approval of the executive, although it was pointed out that home and home matches were likely to suffer to some extent if thd idea was accepted. Mr Cocking moved that the first portion of the recommendation be agreed to, and this was carried. „ ~ With regard to the Charity Cup, Mr Brown moved that the match he between the winners of A Division and the runnersup, but an amendment by Mr Anderson that the committee’s recommendation lie accepted was carried by seven votes to three. ... For the knock-out competition it was decided that entries be called for from teams in the First Grade and that in the event, of nine teams entering the bottom team in B Grade be cut out as suggested by the committee.
