Mr and Mrs T. W. Slater left yesterday for Auckland, where they intend to reside in future. A Paris cablegram announces the death of Maitre Demarge, a famous French advocate. Ho was counsel for the defence in the Dreyfus case. A Press Association message from Wellington states that Mr G. A. Morris, associate editor of the Christchurch Sun, has been appointed editor of the New Zealand Times. Sergeant Turner, who has been relieving at Port Chalmers for the past two months, has resumed duty at the Central Police Station. .Mr T. J. M’Cawe, postmaster at Riverton, and returning officer for the Wallace electorate, has received advice of his promotion to the position of postmaster at Reefton, and will leave for his new station early in March. An Auckland Press Association telegram announces the death of Mr Charles Daniel Grey, aged 65. The deceased Was a former mayor of Auckland. Among expected arrivals by the lonio on February 17 are Sir Frederick and f.ady Dutton (states a Wellington Press Association message). The former is a vice-president of the Royal Colonial Institute, _ and takes a keen interest in furthering its efforts, the main object of which is the unity of the British Empire. At_ the social evening which concluded the jubilee celebrations of Court St. Andrews, No. 6127, United Otago District, Ancient Order of Foresters, last night, the chairman (I.P.D.C.R. Bro. W Wright), on behalf of the brethren, took the opportunity to present to the Court Secretary, Pro. R. Jefferson, a silver-mounted walking stick in recognition of his faithful services in that capacity during the past 24- years. The chairman also presented Bro. .Jefferson with an umbrella for Mrs Jefferson. Occasion was also taken by Bro. Wright to present Bro. Campbell, whdt has been Court Treasurer for over 11 years, with a fountain pen. Bros. Jefferson and Campbell suitably expressed ; their thanks.
