OTAGO LABOUR COUNCIL.
MONTHLY MEETING. The monthly meeting of the Otago Labour Council was held on Thursday evening, Mr P. Neilson presiding. The local committee of the Workers’ International' Relief wrote requesting the council to endorse the appeal which is being issued to render financial assistance to European workers.—The endorsement was granted. Mr J. Crow, sen., sent a letter embodying appreciative references to the work the council had been doing for a number of years. Mr Crow, who is now 94 years old, was the first treasurer and trustee of the original Trades and Labour Council.— The Secretary (Mr L. F. Evans) was instructed to reply in suitable terms acknowledging Mr Crow’s friendly letter. The Federation of Trades Councils wrote asking the losal district to institute all possible inquiries as to the manufacture of shoddy footwear, so that action may be taken in the next session of Parliament.— The Secretary was instructed to obtain the required information. The Now Zealand parliamentary Labour Party wrote asking the council to forward the remits for the next annual conference in Wellington at Eastertide.—The Secretary was instructed to advise all delegates that such remits would he tabled at the next meeting of tho council.
