HAMILTON, October 23. In the Police Court a well-known Eureka farmer, Thomas Luxton, was remanded on a charge of fraudulently obtaining £125 17s from the Yorkshire Insurance Company. Accused’s house was burned on September 2, and the allegation is that in compiling the losses accused gave several articles as having been destroyed that were i actually saved. WELLINGTON, October 23. At the formal opening of portion of the new park at Lower Hutt by Viscountess Jellicoe to-day the Mayor, Mr Strand, announced that Messrs Riddiford (3) had given £SOOO for the construction of swim- 1 ming baths. The plans had already been drawn for a very complete structure, and a bath 40ft by 300 ft. A letter was read from the donors enclosing the money, to the council on trust, and stipulating ■> that the children of the St. James School should be allowed the use of the bath every* day. In consideration of this handsome gilt the park will be known as the Riddiford Garden. , %.
The Appeal Court struck off the roll John Leslie Hanna, a solicitor of Paeroa, ou the ground of irregularities in a trust account, but he will have the right to apply for re-admission on showing due cause. The case Howard Elliott against the New Zealand Worker, a claim for fIOO for alleged defamatory statements, has been adjourned sine die, owing to counsel foe the plaintiff being unable to attend for family reasons.

The new regulations affecting Territorials and Senior Cadets state that when any person liable for military training changes his place of residence he shall notify his change of place of residence as follows: —If serving in the Territorial or • Senior Cadet unit, by informing the commanding officer within 14 days; if posted ■ to the non-effective list by notifying the s
nearest defence office within 14 days if by reason- of such change his place of residence is within fiv(? miles of established, training centre.
