Pten Association—By Telegraph—Copyright. PERTH, September 19. A wireless message has been received stating that the steamer Northumberland is making for I remantle as fast as possible. Fire is., raging in No. 4 hold. The Northumberland is a twin-screw steel vessel of 1255 tons. She was built in,1891 by Wigham, Richardson, and Co., Newcastle, for the Charlottetown Steam Navigation Company.

FIRE NOW UNDER CONTROL.

FREMANTLE, September 19. (Received Sept. 19, at 9.50 p.m.) The Northumberland, from Liverpool, has arrived. The fire is still smouldering, but it is under control. It started on Friday. The crew had an anxious time, utilising the water of the steam cylinder to keep it in check till the vessel reached port. The 'hatch where the fire started contains over 1000 bags of parcels and mails for various States, besides general cargo, including rubber goods. The damage will not bo known till the hatch is opened.
