STABBING AFFRAY.
THE ACCUSED REMANDED,
diaries Leonard Loamon Hankinsj the man who was concerned in the stabbing affray in the Grand Hotel on Friday, was brought before Mr J. R. Bartholomew, S.M., at the City Police Court on Saturday morning on charges of being drunk in High street, using obscene language within the hearing of passers-by, and assaulting Maurice Brady so os to cause him actual bodily harm. Accused pleaded guilty to being drunk and to using obscene language, electing to be dealt with summarily in the latter charge. Sub-inspector Fraser applied for a remand in the case of the charge of assault, and stated that accused had run a knife right through the injured man’s hand. The doctor’s report stated that it would be aviso to wait for a day or two to see if complications set in. A remand was granted to Friday next. The Sub-inspector said that the accused had gone to the Grand Hotel about 12.45, and was ordered out by the barman, Brady, but refused to leave. The barman then put him out, and the accused made use of the obsc#e language complained of. Ho returned to the hotel later, and was again ejected by the barman, and when the twp men reached the front door accused drew a knife and stabbed the barman in the hand. The sub-inspector handed to the bench the statement of accused’s previous offences. Accused was fined 10s, or 24 hours imprisonment, for drunkenness; and £3, in default 14 days in gaol, for using obscene language.
