AN ALLEGED IMPOSTER
“HOLDER OF VICTORIA CROSS.” CHARGES BY POLICE. LONDON, August 23. “Who is the man, named Dunne, who i s performing in the streets Oxford, swallowing watches and candles, after having obtained a magistrate’s permission to do so, and who states that he is the holder of the Victoria Cross.' asks the 81 u, v e " ”, Dimne among the surviving winners of the Victoria Cross. It recalls the exploits of Bugler Dunne in the Boer Vvar at the age of 15. When he was shot in the 1 right ann he shifted his bugle to the left, ami continued blowing -he charge until he was unconscious. Queen Victoria presented Dunn© with a silver bugle Dunne formerly was a seriant in the Royal Household, and later went to Australia. Dunne was annoyed at the reports that a man was impersonating him in London in .1923, and offered a reward for information leading to his exlater message states that Dunne has been charged by the police with wearing military medals to which h© was not entitled.
