Locatelli, the Ealian aviator, was met by the police reserves at the Grand Central Station in order to prevent a threatened riot among the rival factions. A crowd of 5000 Italians assembled with shouts of “Hurrah for Locatelli.” These were answered by cries of “Down with telli and the Fascist}.” Fearing an outbreak. the police ordered'that the official welcome should be dispensed with, and they escorted LocatolU to his hotel oy a side street, which was guarded.—A. and N.Z. Cable. FLIGHT TO NORTH POLE ABANDONED. NEW YORK, September 6. (Received Sept. 7, at 5.5 p.m.) Locatelli has announced that he has renounced his proposed flight to the North Pole with Roald Amundsen, who had learned from the disastrous aeroplane trip ending in Arctic waters that there was a better chance of reaching the Pole in a dirigible than in an airplane.—Reuter.'
