ACCLIMATISATION OF GROUSE.
LADY LIVERPOOL’S EXPERIMENT.
(From uur Own Correspondent.) LONDON, July 3. Sir James Allen has received a letter from Lady Liverpool stating she now has a number of grouse ready to send out to Now Zealand. It will be remembered that on various occasions in the past an attempt has bcem made to ship grouse to the dominion, but the birds have not stood the journey Out, or rather have not taken kindly to the change of diet. Lady Liverpool has taken a groat interest in this matter and has gono to the trouble of rearing birds especially for transporting to the dominion. From their earliest weeks the chicks have been brought up on tho food that they will liave to consume on the journey, and it is hoped that now they are almost adult birds they will take kindly to the caged life on board steamer, especially as their food will be exactly the same as they have been having since their infancy. The birds will be shipped on August 13, and will be taaen over on arrival by the Wellington Acclimatisation Society.
