INTERCHANGE OF CRUISERS. ' Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright, MELBOURNE, August 21. Arrangements have been completed for an interchange of cruisers between the Australian and Imperial fleets every three years. An Australian cruiser will sojourn with the British Navy, and will be replaced by a British cruiser with a British personnel on the Australian station. PATRICK STEAMSHIP COMPANY FAILS. SYDNEY, August 21. Patrick Steamships, Ltd., which in October last introduced drastic freight reductions in the inter-Statc shipping trade, lias decided to go into liquidation. Captain Patrick, the managing director of the company, states that the cessation of operations has been brought about principally by insufficient support and intense competition. TAXATION OF LANDOWNERS. CHARGES AGAINST DEPARTMENT. MELBOURNE, August 21. The Ministry has decided to appoint a Commission to inquire into the allegations made by Mr J. H. Scullin against the Government that the Taxation Department was not pressing its claims for taxation against the big landowners, one of whom, Mr Scullin said, owed the country £IOO,OOO. He claimed that £2,000,000 in laud tax and £2,000,000 in income tax were outstanding. THE RAILWAYMAN'S UNION. SYDNEY, August 21. The executive resolved to expel A. W. Buckley, the suspended secretary, from membership of the Australian Railways Union, and that he be dismissed from all offices forthwith. NEW QUEENSLAND LOAN. BRISBANE, August 21. The Assembly read a first time a Bill for raising a new loan of £9,000,000, to be covered by Government stock or inscribed stock.
