Sterling has reached 4.50, representing a decline within a week of 3J cents. The Continental currencies dropped sympathetically. Prominent bankers, in explaining the setback, assert that the bulk of the salesof sterling were probably executed by speculators, who sold heavily on the London market.—A. and N.Z. Cable. DUNEDIN STARR-BOWKETT SOCIETY. Mr G. P. Scoonos presided over a meeting of the Dunedin Starr-Bowkett Society which was held in the Oddfellows’ Hall, Stuart street, last evening. The 144th appropriation of £SOO in tho No. 3 group was disposed of by ballot, cluster No. 43 being drawn, held by one shareholder. Tho 18th appropriation of £SOO in the No. 5 group was disposed of by sale, £lO9 being sold at £47 per cent., and £4OO at £43 per cent. The chairman mentioned that only 100 shares remained in the No. 5 group. A cablegram from London states that gold is quoted at £4 lls 7d an ounce. D-algety and Co.’s shares are quoted at £l3 10a and the debentures at £76.
