A committor consoling of tno Mayor, Deputy-mayor, and Cr Hall- was appointed to consider and report ou the Motor Vehicles Bill. Mr B. B. Couston (Taieri County engineer) wrote staling that the Sin main had been laid from the Main South road to De Carle street, and all that remained was to make two cross connections. This would be done in the next few days.—Received. A motion—“ That Mr Couston be instructed to proceed imirlodiately with the taking of the levels in Prince Albert road” was carried on the casting vote of Cr Dove. Cr Longworth (addressing the chair): By jove, you’re pretty hot! Cr Dove; I'm quite within my rights, and I am acting according to precedent. Cr Deary: A very bad precedent. The Otago Hospital Board advised that it had adopted the detailed estimates for the year, April 1, 1934, to March 31, 1925, and the amount that had been apportioned to the borough of St. Kilda was X'1609 15a 7d, payable monthly on or before the last day of each month in the financial year. Interest af the rate of 7 per cent, was payable on the amount of any instalment or part thereof remaining unpaid after the expiration of 14 days from which it was due. Cr Leary then moved that the following remit be forwarded to the Conference of Municipal Associations of New Zealand, to be hold in October:—"That sub-section 3 of section 8 of the Hospital and Charitable Institutions’ Amendment Act, 1923, be amended so as to provide for the infliction of interest on unpaid instalments' payable by a local authority only if such remain unpaid after 14 days from date of infliction of the 10 per cent, penalty by such local authority for non-payment of rates due six months and II days after date of demand of same, but in all cases the full amount of the board’s levy must be paid on or before March 31 in each year.” The remit was seconded and carried. Cr Teller gave notice of motion—“ That the resolution o' the council of May 26, which reads, ‘That the recommendation of lire foreman with reference to the necessary street work and in addition thereto the kerbing and channelling of Prince Albert road and Driver street be adopted,’ be altered to read ‘That the recommendations of tire foreman with reference to the necessary street work and in addition thereto the kerbing and the channelling of: (1) That portion of Prince Albert road from Bay View road to Market street on the one side and Young to Council street on the other side, (2) Driver street, (3) Jackson street be adopted.’ The motion was seconded, pro forma, by Cr Longworth and defeated.
