DUNEDIN CHORAL SOCIETY. Readers have been well informed of the special attraction at His Majesty’s Theatre this evening, when the Choral Society will render Weber’s opera “ Der Frciscliutz.” Dr Galway has put. in considerably more time than usual in getting the orchestra and chorus well coached, and with the assistance of tho soloists the whole performance should be of outstanding merit. The society can always bo relied upon to produce something well worth while, and upon this occasion there should not be a music-lover who* does not find some of the numbers which will particularly appeal to him or her. MUSICAL RECITAL. Much interest has been aroused in musical circles over the musical recital in Burns Hall on Thursday next. This recital will break entirely new ground in the musical Gold, in so far as it is the first time that Dunedin audiences have had tho opportunity of hearing in public tho wonderful “Duo Art Reproducing Piano.” On this instrument, which is entirely controlled by electricity, pianoforte solos will be rendered by Paderewski, Percy Grainger, Harold Bauer, etc. Mrs S. Foote will contribute several vocal solos, which are sure to meet with a hearty reception. Many of the latest and best gramophone records will be heard on the famous “Cheney” gramophone. Tho record just received of the Hon. W. F. Massey’s speech will be heard for the first, time in Dunedin. Tliis speech was delivered by Mr Massey during his last trip Home to the Imperial Conference. On the other side of this record is the New Zealand National Anthem, “God Defend New Zealand,” rendered by Peter Dawson and a full chorus. The recording of this number is particularly fine, and is sure to inspire all who hear it Besides tile above attractions, Mr Phil Palmer will render several 'cello solos. Miss Rita Holmes is to provide tho accompaniments. Scats may bo reserved free at Begg's, and the box plan is rapidly filling. “ JERQUES.” A special feature of this entertainment, to bo presented at His Majesty’s on Saturday and Monday next, is the group of costume ballet dances arranged by Miss N. Keates. Tho setting of these dances is fairyliko, while lighting effects of a novel nature hcivo also been designed. Mu>io will be supplied by an orchestra of 15, with Mr J. Wallace, L.T.C.L., as loader. The rehearsals indicate that the ballet dancing will bo very acceptably presented, and the performers have assiduously practised their parts. Of the pest of the. entertainment it need only bo mentioned that there are 350 performers, all elaborately costumed, to indicate that tho production is on a lavish scale, and the programme is agreeably varied.. Other items include gymnastic work of a high order, vocal and comedy sketches, acrobatics, tumbling, choir singing, etc. The funds of the V.MC.A. are to benefit by the entertainment, which will bo produced by Mr J. V. Hanna. Tho booking will bo opened on Wednesday at the Bristol.
