Mr E. Ansoombe went north yesterday on" a brief business visit to Wellington. Mr L. D. Ritchie returned from Wellington 'by the express last evening. Mr W. B. Scandrett, of Invercargill, passed north on the through express yestorda]yir P. de la Perrelle, M.P. for Awarua, passed through by tho express yesterday on Kis way to Wellington. A Press Association message from Wellington announces the death of Mr J. L. Bennett, caretaker of tho Kapiti Island bird sanctuary. He was a native of Oamaru, and was 55 years of age. A cablegram from London announces tho death of Mr Edward Wakefield, journalist, and formerly a member of tho New Zealand House of Representatives. He was editor of tho Timaru Herald from 1874 to 1834. For many years past he had resided in England, Miss Thelma Thompson, of the Wauchop School of Dancing, went to Christchurch yesterday-to take part with Mr F. Reado Wauchop in the Spanish Cabaret entertainment that is being produced there in aid of the funds of the Girl Guido movement. A number of ex-teachers and ex-pupils arrived last evening to attend the jubilee celebrations in connection with the Albany Street School. Amongst the visitors are Miss Haig (Christchurch), Mr A. Crawford (Wanganui), Mr Robert Johnson and Mr G. L. Stewart (Wellington), Mr J G. Robb (Christchurch), and Messrs Percy and J. W. Shaw, representing the Dunedin Club in Auckland. Mr H. D. Skinner, of the University staff, loft by tho express yesterday for the north, en route for Adelaide, to attend the conference of the Australasian Association for the Advancement ot Science. Mr Skinner is president of the Anthropology section of the association, and will also represent both tho Otago Institute nnd the Polynesian Society. The Otago Institute will also be represented by Mr H. J. Findlay and Mr F. H. M’Dowall at the conference
