ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES.
DEATH OF A GUARD. RUN OVER MV A TRUCK. (Feb United . Association.) WELLINGTON, August 14. A shunting accident occurred at Petone p'.o.it o "a in-f r.i-ht- rr'-ulting in the dentil of a guard named R. Harrison. Deceased was m cnuige ot a goods train, and was engaged in shunting open-lions at the Gear Meat Company’s siding. He was apparently standing on the end waggon, and was shaken off just after the waggon crossed the points. The truck passed over his body. It was one of the old style, and had no brake handle on the side on which Harrison was. .■ui the foothold ho would have would bo a’wooden projection about two inches wide, and as ho would have one hand occupied in holding his lantern in position his hold would be precarious. A doctor and ambulance were summoned, but before their arrival the man was dead. Deceased was between 45 and 50 years of ago, a married man, residing in Wellington.
