MOTOR CAR MISHAP, FOUR BOYS KNOCKED DOWN. (Peb United Press Association;) CHRISTCHURCH, August 14. 4. thxee-seater car was being driven through Waipara at 12.30 p.m. to-day by Mr James Davie, of Nelson, \m©n , : f '-ooy riding a bicycle crossed suddenly on .to the wrong side of tb o road. The motorist swerved to avoid him and knocked down four school boys who were standing on, to® side of the road. As a result Archibald MTherson is in the Christchurch Hospital suffering from severe scalp wounds, and James Antill is in the Waikari Hospital with a bad wound in the leg. The others received minor injuries for which they wore treated and then conveyed to their homes. INVERCARGILL. August 14. Margaret a married woman, 43 years of age, was found dead in a hath of waiter with a cord tied round her throat at 6 p.m. to-day by her husband on his return home. The deceased had been m indifferent health for the last two yean. TRAIN PASSENGER’S DEATH. The Superintendent of Police was advised by Constable Connor at Wadtati that the body of an elderly man, which from documents found indicates that it is that .of W. Ross, was discovered at 7.40 a,m. yesterday lying alongside the railway line between Waitati and Purakanui. It is sodmised that the deceased was a passenger to Dunedin by tho train which reached here at 8.45 p.m. yesterday. Marks on the body would make it appear that the deceased had fallen from the train, and in falling had struck a large rock Deceased’s head was lying a few inches from one of the rails, and there was a deep gash, onthe forehead, the brain and bone protruding. There was also a deep out on the chin. A portmanteau containing wearing apparel wna found in close proximity bo the body. Among deceased's effects wore a second-class ticket from Christchurch to Dunedin, a bank book showing a substantial credit balance, a letter from Jessie M. Adams, Thames Hotel, Auckland, and a 'Card showing that deceased had been a boarder a* a private hotel at 19. Essex street, Wellington, Other documents pointed to the fact that deceased had bean attending tho Grand National meeting at Riocarbon, also that bo contemplated paying a visit to Great Britain, Constable Connor had the body removed to the Morgue at Waitati. 'Hie Coroner was apprised of the facts and has arranged for an inquest to bo opened there at 4 p.m. to-day.
