FATE OF THE RIPPLE.
QUESTION OE AN ENQUIRY. (Peb United Pbess Association.) WELLINGTON, August 14. The Minister of Marine in the' House today stated that he had . received advice this afternoon that the head office of the company which is in Napier had sent a formal notification to the Collector of Customs there of the loss of the Ripple. The Collector of Customs; may hold a preliminary inquiry, but it; is more than likery that as nearly all the evidence will be. obtainable in Wellington he will decide that a preliminary inquiry is not necessary. The Collector of Customs will forward to the Department the notification he received from the owners, and when received. The question of holding a magisterial inquiry will have immediate attention. Even if a preliminary inquiry were held it would still be necessary to hold a magisterial inquiry.
