AEROPLANES IN TROUBLE.

FORCED LANDING NECESSARY. AVIATORS ESCAPE INJURY. (Peb I /kited P,be3p Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, August 1. Tills morning Lieutenant F. O. Ewen, of Hamilton, flying over Christchurch suburbs, made a forced landing in nn Avro. The wing of the machine touched a wire fence, and tlie machine crashed. The propeller was broken, the under-carriage smashed, and the wing broken, but tho aviator was unhurt, A relief machine landed a mechanic, and when starting on the return journey to the aerodrome made another landing in an adjoining paddock. Hie machine struck a gorse fence, and had to land quickly, the strain imposed breaking the shock absorber. Otherwise there was no damage.
