(Received August 1, at 9 p.m.) Ah investigation into the recent entry into this county of Luis Firpo is promised by Commissioner-General Husband, of the Immigration Bureau at the demand of Canon William Chase, president of the New York Civic League.—Reuter. Luis Firpo, the Argentine heavy-weight pugilist, ami a woman named Blanca Lourdes, listed as Firpo’s stenographer, ■were detained by the immigration authorities on their arrival from the Argentine last week because their passports were insufficiently vised. Firpo was subsequently admitted as a visitor to the United States. A few days later his deportation was demanded by Canon William Chase, head of the Now York Civic League, “in the interests of clean sport.’’ Canon Chase pointed out that Firpo came to the United States with a •woman who was held at Ellis Island and finally allowed to go to Cuba. Canon Chase said ho was enable to understand why she was refused permission to laud and Firpo was allowed to enter.
