THE POSTAL SERVICE. SALARIES OF OFFICERS FIXED. presa Association— By Telegraph—Copyright. MELBOURNE, Juno 21. The Federal Public Service Board has fixed tho classification and salaries oi officers in mail branches for the commonwealth. Tho maximum salaries of superintendents range from £612 at Perth to £876 at Sydney ; assistant superintendents, £4BO to £535; supervisors, £oB4 to £SUU. The classification provides for an annual review of the scale of salaries. The board decided that the commonwealth statistician’s figures regarding the cost of living should be taken into consideration on April 1 of each year, and where the index number exceeds a given limit oi is below a stated figure the salaries shall be increased or decreased accordingly. Right Of appeal is provided for. STATE HOUSING ABANDONED. SYDNEY, Juno 21. A Bill providing for the abolition of the State housing scheme and the Housing Department has been prepared by the Minister of local Government (Mr A. Bruntnell) and will be introduced next session.
