ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES.
-■ ■ i ■■■ FOOTBALLER’S DEATH. (Per United Press Association.) WESTPORT, June 21. At the inquest touching the death of William King in the Westport Hospital on Friday morning, evidence was given that from a break-away in a line-out in a junior football match at Granity on the preceding Saturday, the deceased received a kick or a knock from a knee. Ho recovered sufficiently to play a little longer, and then left the field. He became seriously ill that night, and was removed to the Westport Hospital, where ho died at 2 a.m. on Friday. A verdict that death was the result of injuries to tue abdomen accidentally received in a football match was returned. The funeral took place to-day. A lengthy cortege included officials of the Buller Rugby Union and footballers from all the clubs in the district. The hearse was preceded by members of the Rover Club, of which deceased was a member. An impressive service was held at graveside by the Rev. Mr Neligan, of Granity. DEATH BY SCALDING. (Fer United Press Association.) GREYMOUTH, June 21. Richard James, the three-year-old son of Runatsga residents, died this morning through injuries caused by scalds. Flo tipped a kettle of water into the fire, and the resultant steam scalded him, CHINESE INJURED. A fractured leg, anil a bruised face were received by a Chinese named Ah Fong, through being knocked down by a motor car at the junction of Carroll and Princes streets on Friday night. The injured, man was removed to the Hospital, and was placed on the dangerously ill list. It was reported yesterday that he showed little sign of improvement. It is stated that the driver of the car stopped and gave every assistance.
