TI <5 *1 At • LONDON, June 19. Die South 1 Africans’ first innings against Essex realised 263 (Taylor 126, Nourse 48) Louden took six wickets for 71. Essex in tbeir second innings made 296 for seven wickets (Niclvolls 50, Russell 108, O’Connor oi), when stumps were drawn. The weather was fine and the wicket good, laylor played a superb, chanceless innings. He batted for 145 min. Nourse was sound. Russell, who batted for three hours, displayed clean cutting and driving.—Router.
