Essex in tbeir second innings made 296 for seven wickets (Niclvolls 50, Russell 108, O’Connor oi), when stumps were drawn. The weather was fine and the wicket good, laylor played a superb, chanceless innings. He batted for 145 min. Nourse was sound. Russell, who batted for three hours, displayed clean cutting and driving.—Router.
