The professional contest between Tommy Fairhall and Eugene Volaire, which will be staged at His Majesty’s Theatre on Wednesday next, is exciting great local interest. Fairhall has suffered only one defeat in New Zealand, i and that at the hands of Havilah Uren in April laet at Wellington. The contest waa 15 rounds of hard gruelling in-fighting, and was a clever and willing display of close work. Fairhall’s recent decision over Stone shows him to be » boxer of no mean order. Ho is clever at defence, and can also assimilate punishment, and can punch with great accuracy and speed. The preliminary professional contest between Alfords and M'Donald should itself be a great tussle. The qualifications of M’Donaicl are undoubted, and on the other hand Alfords is one of the best middle-weights Australia lias produced for some time. Alfords has a splendid ring record, both in Auetialia and on the Continent, and a glance through his records affords ample evidence in support of this. Fairhall, who waa expected to arrive last evening, telograpned to the Otago Boxing Association that he vas breaking his journey, and would not arrive until Monday. A telegram has been Despatched to Fairhall to the effect Pi it ho must arrive in Dunedin to-day. jeatrone are reminded that the box plan will open at die Bristol on Monday morning. OTAGO HUNT CLUB. The Otago Hunt Club’s weekly meet is to be held over the well-known properties cf Messrs Malcolm Stevenson, Oliver and Thompson, and Hamilton, “Sea View,” which are quite handy from St. Clair car.
