“LA CORSICANA.”
On Thursday evening the much-looked-forvvard-to Chautauqua season will open in His Majesty’s Theatre, when that delightful opera ‘‘La Corsicana” will be presented by the Regal Opera Company, also excerpts from “Samson anc. Delilah,” “La Forza del Destine,” “Rigoletto,” “Faust,” and “II Trovatore.” By music-lovers such a repertoire will bo greatly appreciated. The vocalists will include Maxim Brodi (tenor, late with the Chicago Grand Opera), Wyndelle Isaacs (soprano), Gertrude Hutton (contralto), and Keith Cook (basso), whilst the piamato and accompaniste will be Rene Morrissy. The Ballarat Courier, referring to the performance of “La Corsicana” by the Chautauqua artists in Ballarat, said : “Those who were present will long remember the exceptionally high artistic standard of the performance, both in the prelude and in the staging of the opera. The outstanding artist in a brilliant bevy was Mr Maxim Brodi, a young Russian endowed with a tenor voice of rare quality and sweetness.” The Dunedin Chautauqua Committee has decided to give the whole of the proceeds of this season’s entertainments to the Radium Fund, so that patrons will have the satisfaction of knowing that by attending these performances they.will not only enjoy excellent concerts but they will also be assisting a deserving cause. Season tickets may be procured from Begg’s, and seats may be reserved there free of charge. Tickets for single performances are also on sale.
