BOXING

The Combined Sports Chib opened the 1924 season in the rooms 01 Mr Les Murray on Saturday evening before a large attendance of members. The season promises to be an exceptional one, many now members having joined 11 ,r H. L. ‘ Humphreys controlled the boxing bouts and expressed great satisfaction at the fonn shown by the participants. Several novices showed great promise. T. 'Griffiths and Colin Campbell gave a clever exhibition. Gruuths should give a good account of himself when be meets Nat Carroll (the Wellington champion) at Ashburton.

Jim Lcckie (the big University and Otago light heavy-weight champion) boxed two rounds each with H. Twigg and H. Fyfe, of the University Boxing Club, and L. Cotter and P. Aitken, of the same club, gu\o a fine exhibition. The University men should do well at (he University tournament, which is being held in Wellington during Easter week.
