“THE CRUCIFIXION.”
The estimation in which trainer’s beautiful cantata “The Crucifixion,' 1 is held as an expression musically of the immortal Easier drama, is emphasised by the fact that in at least five of (he local churches this music was rendered on tjunda’- evening. At the United Congregational Church, after the Rev. A. H. Wallace had concluded the last of a series of addresses designed to centre the thoughts of the congregation on the Divine passion and sacrifice, the choir pave an impressive interpretation of Stainer’s cantata, closing appropriately on e note triumphant by singing the “Halleluiah Chorus.’’ The solo work was treated with rare taste and feeling by Mr S. G. Angel, Mr Harry Drake and Mr G. Dyer, the choir. numbering 42 voices, being conducted by Mr W. R. Sinclair, with Mr Ron Abernethy at, the organ. TTIO solo, in the offertory anfhem, “.Seek ye the Lord ” was sung by Miss Alice Wilkinson.
