ANNUAL REPORT. The annual report of the Dunedin Choral Society states;--The year was an event!ul one, the society having just passed us sixtieth milestone. GoleridgeTayior). The first piece ol music, winch had only once betore been produced in Dun- ' edm (by the Sholheld Choir), was greatly appreciated. Tho madrigals, which were unaccompanied, also marked a new and welcome departure. “The Messiah” was again an outstanding feature ot the year’s work. The assistance ol triends trom the Male Choir made a remarkably well-balanced chorus, and a great success was achieved. The chorus showed good interest in there work, but the attendance during the yearwas seriously ntiectcd by influenza. Two of the old members (Airs Allan and Mr William Thomson) removed to the country, and : were much missed Horn the ranks or tho chorus. The latter had been a consistent and valued member lor 50 years. The treasurer (Air J. F. Reid) left during the year tor Wellington, and the members ot the chorus showed tneir appreciation of hi* services by making him a presentation. The society was again indebted to the orchestra tor the good work done during tho year. Two el their number who are much missed are Mr Barth, principal 'cellist, who has gone to Invercargill, and Mr W. F. Morrison, flautist, who lias removed to Wellington. The conductor, Dr- Galway, had been ihdetatigable throughout the year in hi a eHorta to keep up the .ngll standard ot the society a performances, and the society expresses its obligation to him for Ins excellent work. Miss Hartley also had been unfailing in her attendance aiiu in her zeai lor tne weitaio , ot the society. Throughout the year the society had been without the services of a. secretary, and Mr W. L. Logie, chairman of the committee, undertook tho duties or the position with untiring energy and enthusiasm until his unfortunate breakdown in health at the end of September. Thank*, are due to him lor his generous and aeltsacriticing help. During the year a few additions had been made to the library, including some music purchased at the sale of the late conductor's library. The committee believed that members would like the society to possess some ot Mr Wolfs music, which included some ot his own compositions. Tho society commenced the year with. (£23 7a Id credit balance in the bank, and receipts from all durum the twelve months amounted to <£74B los bd, while th ; disbursements totalled £753 2a credit in the bank of x2l Os 6d, The asa ®" B were estimated a £132 5s Id and the liabilities at £l7B 7s Id.
