TAXATION SYSTEM.
■A ROYAL COMMISSION. PERSONNEL OF COMMISSION MR JUSTICE SIM CHAIRMAN. (Pra United Ptatss Association.) WESTPORT, April 1. Yesterday afternoon Mr H. E. Holland, M.P. (Leader of the Parliamentary Labour Party), telegraphed to the Prime Minister ; with reference to the proposal to appoint a Rpyal Commission consisting, of Mr Justice Sirn and four business men to inquire into the Land and Income Tax system. Mr , (Holland protested that it would be manifgsUy unfair if representation on the com'tniswon wore confined to one section of the community, and he strongly urged that organised workers be given at least equal ’ atefmsentstion with the business element. MR HOLLAND’S PROTEST. ' REPRESENTATION OF WORKERS SOUGHT. - WELLINGTON. April 1. Mn Massey has announced that the Govlernnienl Is taking the necessary steps for the appointment of a Royal Commission to inquire into the present system of land and income taxation. It is hoped that the commission will be able to commence its sittings next week, and that it will visit and take evidence in the four principal centres, i Mr Justice Sim will be chairman of the commission and the remaining four members, who will bo well-known and ecx- - penenced business men, will bo announced, together with the order of reference, when the Governor-General has signed the warrant for the commission.
