GENERAL NEWS.
The monthly nicotine; of the Green Island School Committee was held last night, Mr A. Kane piesiding. Apologies were received from Mr K. P. Williams and Mr J. G. Lindsay. A few small items were ordered to be attended to. The committee had received no intimation of the appointment of a first male assistant, and members expressed their disappointment at the lact. Reports of visits were made by the truant officer, the physical instructor, the garden instructor, and the schools’ dentist. The head master reported the attendance to be; —Boys 181, girls 155; —total, 336. The averages for the tour weeks were I'll. 318, 321. and 315, At the monthly meeting of the Moegiel School Committee Mr H. Millar presided. The East Taicri School Committee forwarded a cheque for £8 9s 6d, being its proportion of the cost of establishing the dental clinic. The nurse in charge of the clinic reported that she had already given treatment as follows;—Mosgicl 145, East Taieri 30, North. Taieri 10, Wylies Crossing 10, Outram 2. Members expressed themselves as gratified with the increased attendance at the clinic. The many small entertainments that are being held in Mosgiel and surroundings in aid of the various queen candidates in connection with the Taieri Pipe Band carnival are being well patronised, and contribute to the enjoyment or those working in the interests of this function. In addition to those already reported, an enjoyable dance was held at North Taieri. The music was supplied by Mr L. and Miss M’Lean. Watts orchestra also assisted. Miss Matheaon favoured with vocal solos. The ladies provided supper.
