(Received Feb. 27, at 5.5 p.m.) Newman, playing Smith at Newcastle in a game of 16,000 on level terms, achieved for the third time in his career a break of over 1000. The break started by a fluke, and thereafter he played perfectly. By fine top-of-the-table play ho carried an unfinished break of 502 to 1208, breaking down on a red winner. The closing scores are; Newman 10,400 Smith (in play) 10,302 —A. and N.Z. Cable.
