IMPROVEMENTS AND REPAIRS. The following recommendations by the architect for repairs and improvements to school property were dealt with: — The head master of Macandrew Road School applied tor extra cupboard tor library books of Standard Vl.—Granted. An application from Pine Hill for asphalting at a cost of £3O was recommended tor both board and Government subsidies. The Architect recommended the construction of two new large concrete tanks and alterations to spouting and drains at Weston. —Approved. The renovation of the teacher’s residence at Ngapuna was approved. Mr Collins’s offer to purchase old roofing iron at Luggate for £2 was accepted. The Architect reported that the building at Kaihiku was not worth repairs. It was condemned some time ago. He suggested that the committee appointed to visit Romahapa should inspect the building.—Approved. It was decided to renovate one room at St. Bathar.s at a cost of £25. Fencing- at Wanaka to the value of £3O 14s 8d was approved. It was decided that plans be prepared and application made to the Education Department for another room at Tohakapo School. It was also decided to grant a table, cupboard, and chair. Miss Pringle wrote giving her reasons for asking permission to establish a household school at Haerernai, four miles from Oamaru.—Referred to the senior Inspector for report. It was decided to grant half cost ol seats on the Tapanui playground up to 50s, and to repair a leak in the tank at the residence. Mr Dickie (PukowitaJci) applied for eight months’ leave of absence to enable him to study for his M.A. degree.—The School Committee wrote agreeing provided the relieving teacher is approved by them, and that Mr Dickie will guarantee to continue as teacher for a further term of two years. —Application declined. The Education Department asked that returns of boys over 13 years of age leaving school without entering another school be furnished to the nearest defence office, as was done some years ago. —Request to be complied with. The Headmasters’ Association asked that the system of school classes be altered so that during the calendar year the boys and girls of only one standard be required to attend swimming classes.—lt was resolved that the required number of lessons be given to each sex. THANKS, Tlie Moray Place School Committee wrote expressing thanks for the excellent work carried out by the board in' repairing and renovating the school buildings.—Received. RELIEVING TEACHERS. The Secretary reported that 72 relieving teachers wore employed during the past month. Seven teachers were on sick leave, and four on ordinary leave. ACCOUNTS. Accounts amounting to £19,596 12s 2d were passed for payment. GENERAL. Mr A. Melville was appointed auditor of school committees’ accounts for the year ending on Friday next.
