SOUTH CANTERBURY v. N.S. WALES. EAST WIN FOR VISITORS. (Pn XJarm Psms Absoctathw.l TTMARU, February 27. The second day of the New South WalesSouth Canterbury match attracted a crowd of 5000 spectators. The weather was beautiful, and a sparkling display was given by the visitors, who occupied the wickets for four hours, making 605 runs. The leaigest partnership was that between Andrews and W. Bardsley, which was responsible for 200 runs, and was productive of bright, spectacular cricket. Andrews put most of the bowling just where he wanted to, never giving anything like a chance, and scoring all round the wicket. His contribution took close on 90 minutes and included 15 boundaries and one six. Bardsley scored mostly in singles. The batsmen gave a line exhibition of running between the wickets. Bardsley Kit 13 boundaries, three threes, five twos, the remainder being singles. Everett was probably the hardest hitter, scoring 15 boundaries, while Mullarkey played carefully, treating the bowling respectfully, but hitting loose stuff vigorously. Punch was dismissed after adding nine to his over-night score, which included 11 boundaries. . The home side opened their second innings with SO minutes to play, and they lost the last wicket three minutes bfeore the drawing of stumps. The batsmen did not show any inclination to play out time. The bowling of Mailey and Macartney was too much for the local players, Hudson and Hind alone showing any resistance. The former’s 24 comprised four boundaries. Of 15 overs bowled bv Macartney five were maidens. Scores: SOUTH CANTERBURY. First innings Second Innings.
