SORTING OF MAILS.
SMART WORK AT POST OFFICE. Tho two expresses from tho north yesterday brought to Dunedin an exceptionally largo quantity of mail matter. Most of the local portions of the mails ex the Maunganuf and Ulimaroa came to hand, as well as M bags and 23 hampers of North Island mail. Despite the fact that tho strain on the mail room staff was much greater than usual, the work was curried out in a very efficient manner, and the mails, largo though they were, were sorted as early as, if not earlier than usual. The local portion of tho English and American mail ex the Maunganui comprises 98 bags and 57 hampers, and there are 95 bags and eight hampers of English, Eastern and Australian mails ex the Ulimaroa, and six bags of Australian mail matter cx tho Mnrama. One hundred and twenty-six bags of oversea mails cx tho steamers mentioned and 22 bags and one hamper of North Island mails arrived by tho first express, and seven bags and eight hampers of Australian and North Island mails by the second express. The remainder of the mails by the Maungnnui and Ulimaroa, consisting of parcels and newspapers, will roach Dunedin to-morrow moaning by goods train from the north.
