LABOUR IN AUSTRALIA

ONE BIG UNION MOVEMENT. OPPOSED BY THE SEAMEN. A»*ocj»tion— Bj To'.•graph—Copyright MELBOURNE, January 10. (Received January 10, at 8. p.m.) Among the opponents of the One Big Union which is proposed in an application lodged with the Commonwealth Arbitration Court is the Seamen’s Union, which, while favouring the general principle underlying the movement, views the question from an international standpoint. The union consequently intends to take exception to the “White Australia” clause in the constitution, contending that there are coloured members in the seamen’s ranks, and that unionism should be the test, not colour.
