OVERSEAS SETTLEMENT
BRITISH DELEGATION'S REPORT. NOT FAVOURABLE TO AUSTRALIA. Press Association —By Telegraph—Copyright LONDON, January 10. (Received January 10, at 5.5 p.m.) The Daily Chronicle’s political correspondent says that the Overseas Settlement Delegation to Australia and New Zealand is preparing its report which will not be favourable to Australian settlement. The committee is impressed with the possibilities of settlement, but it did not fail to note the large number of men who were out of work in the towns, and the lack of elementary conveniences in the unsettled districts, and it came to the conclusion that the dominions must take a great deal more trouble in the reception of immigrants before an extended scheme of State-aided migration can be recommended. —A. and N.Z. Cable.
