CHRISTCHURCH, January 9. There was a decided improvement in beef values to-day, and a moderate one, in mutton, whilst fat lambs practically held last week's values. Store sheep, on account of the dry weather and the shortage of feed, sold easier. Fat Lambs. —4050 were penned. The sale was scarcely so keen, but very little easing in values. Prime lambs averaged a full 9i(d, with occasional lots to lOd. Extra prime lambs, 33s to 555; a few special, 37s 4d; prime, 22s 9d to 32s 9d; medium. 27s to 29s 6d; light and unfinished, 22s 6d to 26s 6d. Store Sheep.—There was a fairly largo yarding, mostly old owes and rape and inferior lambs. The market opened decidedly easier, but improved, however. All classes of lambs were easier than last week, and wethers by up to Is 6d. Good ewes sold well, values being good. Fat Cattle.—3So were penned compared with 600 last • week. There was an improvement in values of from 30? to 45s per head for good steers and to 25s for ordinary beef.
