GENERAL NEWS.
The series of excursions arranged by the Workers' Educational Association was concluded on Saturday afternoon. Fire, outings have been held, and all were well attended. Visits were paid to the fish hatcheries, the reservoir, Fraser’s Gully, and the Bonlanic Gardens. Upon each occasion the party was under the guidance of an expert, and thus the trips were kept in line with the educational function of the association. At Fraser’s Gully Miss H. K. Dalrymple was the conductor. Botanical specimens were collected and an interesting talk upon the various species was given. At the gardens Mr Tannock took charge, and a tour of the whole area was made, including tile winter house and the nurseries. The association desires to express its thanks to the friends who officiated. Those who joined in the excursions have derived a great deal of enjoyment anil knowledge. The half-yearly meeting of the Court Pride of the Valley, Juvenile Foresters, attached to Court Pride of the Leith, was held on Saturday evening last, when there was a good attendance of youthful members. The C.R.. Pro. S. Harbrow,’ presided. The election of officers for the new term resulted as follows:—C.R., Pro. J. R. Swan; S.C.R., Pro. J. H. Gaston; S.W., Pro. F. C. Swete; J.W., Pro. M. H. Gaston; S.P., Bio. J. C. L. Mason; J. 8., Pro. J. D. MTutosh; M. Secretary, Pro. D. N. Eokhoff. The installing officers were P.C.R. Pro. R. S. Vercoe, president of the Juvenile Council, and C.R. Pro. H. C. Williamson, member of the council. Encouraging addresses were given by the adult officers present. At the Mosgie! 'Presbyterian Church on Sunday evening last a carol service took the place of the usual devotional exercises, when the choir, under the leadership of the or-->ist (Miss L. E. C. Browne rendered the anthems. ‘‘All My Heart This Night Rejoices.” “How Lovely are the Messengers.” “Magnify; Glorify,” “A Christmas Carol,’’ “Anri the Glory of the Lord.” “Te Deum.” These were all remarkably well sung, showing that the choir had been well trained and that the members bad given of their time and talents unsparingly. Miss Williamson, from Dunedin, sang the following solos; “He Shall Feed His Flock. “Beyond the Dawn,” and ’ “He Was Despised.” Tire minister (the Rev. D. Calder) pave a short address upon the subject, “Christmas, and What it Stands for.”
