MISSION TO UNITED STATES. A GUARDED ANSWER. £*rae« Association —By Telegmph—Copyright WASHINGTON, December 15. (Received Dec. 16, at H. 5 p.m.) The Philippine request for independence was presented for the first time to the Coolidge Administration. The mission presented resolutions adopted by the Philippine Legislature' asking for the recall of Governor Wocd; for a guarantee of the decree of autonomy guaranteed under the Jones Act, and for a final determination of the form of Government! for the islands. Mr Coolidge, under advice, made no statement. Prior to the conference the President let it be known that the Administration was firmly behind Governor Wood, and that it was in favour of complete autonomy as soon as the United States was assured that the people were entirely capable of self-government. —A. and N.Z.
