MacKinnon, Commissioner for the Commonwealth of Australia in America, at the New York Bond Glut), composed of prominent bankers and financial magnates, spoke interestingly on the subject of Australian foreign and internal indebtedness, enlivening his discourse with humorous anecdotes of his personal experiences, to which the audience listened with the keenest attention and amusement. They appeared much interested in the hints which the commissioner threw out respecting the possible flotation in the near future of a further Australian loan in New York, especially in connection with the forthcoming visit her® of the Premier of Queensland, During the luncheon Reuter’s correspondent, who was a gnest, received news by cablegram reporting the British Government’s abandonment of the Signapore base. -.i.r MacKinnon was informed by Reuter’s correspondent, and was greatly interested.—A. and N.Z.
