MELBOURNE POLICE STRIKE

STRIKERS NOT TO BE REINSTATED. FINDING EMPLOYMENT ELSEWHERE. Press Association —By Telegraph—Copyright MELBOURNE, December 15. In the Assembly Mr Prendergast moved that the Government Gazette notifying the discharge of 634 policemen be amended to express the view that the Government reinstate the strikers. The amendment was defeated. The bulk of the strikers are gradually being accommodated in other avenues of employment, some as drivers, some as wharf labourers, and tram guards. The session closed after passing a private Bill to enable women to contest parliamentary elections.—A. and N.Z. Cable.
