DOMINION’S FINANCE.
REVENUE AND EXPENDITURE. A STEADY IMPROVEMENT. {Pm Ukited Peers Association.} WELLINGTON, December 10. The flon. W. Downie Stewart (Acting Minister of Finance) has issued the following statement of the dominion’s revenue and expenditure for the eight months ended November 30, showing a net in the position as compared with the corresponding period of last year of £1,196,809. The revenue for the eight months totalled £14,916,074, against £13,863,549 for the same period of the previous financial year, a net increase of £1,052,525. The following arc the principal items of revenue, the increase teeing shown in parentheses: — Customs. £4,695,071 (£1,080,416). Beer duty, £377,860 (£5317). Stamp and death duties. £2,180,653 (£12,910). „ ’ Post and telegraph, £1.755.559 (£98,069). Income tax, £517,518 (£192,608). Railways, £4,'025,575 (£145,918). Registration and other fees, £110,521 (£16,905). Marine, £53,641 (£22,069). The land tax collected amounted to £493.806, or a comparative decrease of £168,568, with receipt? still to come. The expenditure amounted to £15,615,529, as compared with £15,759.613 for the corresponding period of lasi year, thus showing a net decrease of £144,254. The increases and decreases are evenly distributed throughout the different votes except that in the case of the vote for the working railways the department issues show a decrease of £397,039 as compared with lost year’s figures.
