ILLEGAL TRADING.

CHRISTCHURCH MAGISTERIAL COMMENT. (Pan United Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, December 7. At the quarterly meeting of the Christchurch Licensing Committee, the chairman (Mr H. Y Widdqwson, S.M.) referred to the convictions which had been obtained against certain hotels. The committee hoped that the police would take the matter of Sunday trading actively in hand, and see that every breach of the Licensing Act was taken notice of, and, if brought before the court. Not only was it necessary for the hotelkeepers to observe the law so far as they wore concerned, but non-observanco of the law was grossly unfair to those hotelkeepers who did observe it. It was hoped that there would be a bettor report placed before the next meeting of the committee.
