J The monthly meeting of the Portobello Road Board on Thursday afternoon was. attended by Messrs W. Rowlands (chairman), j K. Lee, D. Hughes, J. Sawle, A. G. Lewis, and S. Jtlinklcy. I J. iSkottowe Webb wrote directing atten- . tion to the bad state of the road leading J to the Anglican Boys’ Home, and asking for repairs at an early date.—The road to , be attended to as sdon as the Beach road I is finished. [ F. W. Mitchell wrote pointing out that ! although the board had notified two months ) ago that a culvert at Elriok, North-East , Harbour, would be completed immediately, , the w’ork had not yet been started. The : writer wished to know if it would bo completed soon, so that, apart from possible accidents, other works might bo done.—The i surfacemen to be instructed to complete the ; work. , ,W. A. Seaton, Portobello, complained that i trees were overhanging Hooper’s Inlet road and also cutting the sunshine off his proi porty.—Tlio matter to stand over until i further particulars come to hand, i Mrs Mil low, Macandrow Bay, wanted a i creek cleaned Put and the road repaired.— i, .Members of sub-division to attend to' it. Wilson, Lower, Portobello, directed v attention to the dangerous state of ct culvert. ’ ait' Mopgin’s ,ebp,.and also asked that.pub-' 1 ■i he before the holidays.—lt wa« stated that the 1 culvert had been - attended to. The letter was received. The Public Works Department authorised' the expenditure of . a grant of £250 oh • Beach road from Dunedin to Gill’s Corner. , —i he Engineer said that half the work to Gill’s Corner was already done, and the balance was being arranged for. Mr A. A. Richard, State Advances Office, j wrote in regard to the board’s application , for a loan. He understood the proposed - work wias repairing roads. This was not one of the purposes for which the depart- , ment was authorised to lend money.—The . Chairman explained the nosition, stating I that once a permit was obtained the loan could be secured, elsewhere. The Depart- ’ ment of Internal Affairs had authorised the f loan for the repairing of flood slips.—The , clerk to consult Mr J. M. Dickson, with a , view to expediting the work. The members reported on the work which I i$ being done in the various sub-divisions.
