Al the disposal of a board appointed by the Government to deal with the question of mental defectives (reports our Sydney correspondent) is an amount of £70,000 widen is now to he utilised for the scientific; treatment of those unfortunates. The Government has purchased about 100 acres of land jn the country, and here it is proposed to erect buildings, for which plans have already been prepared. In addition to receiving treatment within the homos which are thus to be established the mental defectives will "bo educated in different forms of agriculture and bo given an open-air, active life. From a humanitarian point of view, it will probably be the Government’s best monument.
