THE AMERICAN MARKET.

DOMINION’S OPPORTUNITIES. BUTTER. WOOL, AND FROZEN AIEAT. (From Our Own Correspondent.) WELLINGTON, November 9. Air K. G. AlacVitty (United States consul nt Auckland) returned to tho dominion today. He found the States prosperous, and he did quite a bit in endeavouring to develop New Zealand trade with his native land. There should, ho said, bo a good market there for Now Zealand butter. The shipments already received were well spoken of. Tho tariff would not affect New Zealand because there were things the country must have in spite of any tariff- Wool was one item in which there was an increasing importation from New Zealand, and there would probably be a considerable market for frozen meat. “The feelings of Americans towards tho New Zealanders are most friendly,’’ continued Air AlacVitty. “They are keenly interested in and have a tremendous respect for Now Zealand. It is surprising to note tiro interest that is taken in Now Zealand’s system of industrial arbitration and in the dominion’s legislation generally. “While in the States I came across many New Zealanders in all walks of life who had setttlcd there. They were all very well liked, and wore doing splendidly. While on a trip in the Kentucky mountains I visited the mammoth cave which takes 28 hours to walk through. A now entrance had been opened up, and to my surprise I found that the man in charge hailed from Napier.” Mr Massey, said Air AlacA’itty, made a tremendous impression in the United States. “They liked him immensely in Washington. He was given a luncheon by the Secretary of State which ail the Cabinet Ministers attended, and he had an interview with the President.”
