THE EXHIBITION COMMISSIONER
MR ROBERTS APPOINTED. iFnou Onn Own Correspondent.) WELLINGTON, November 6. Only a few days before Mr Roberts was appointed New Zealand Commissioner to the British Empire Exhibition he would have been the last man in New Zealand to think of such an appointment. He was, however, at the last moment approached by the Government to allow his name to be sent in, and after consideration he consented. It is only right that it should bo known that the appointment was not sought by Mr Roberts. At the Rotary Club luncheon to-day reference wa s made by the chairman to the appointment. They were all proud, he said, to know that? their past president had been appointed to such an important office, and he was quite sure he would prove a credit to the dominion. Members of the club endorsed the president’s remark with hearty applause. Mr Roberts, in returning thanks, said it would not bo any fault of his if New Zealand’s representation at the Exhibition did not come' up to expectations. He hoped to work a little propaganda on behalf of the dominion through the rotary clubs which he hoped to visit in England.
