Captain Macdonald, organiser of the White Star Tourist Service, sa'd that Hawaii’s tourist revenue was £25,000,000, Switzerland’s £66,000,000 and Now Zealand’s only £800,000; yet New Zealand possessed more attractions than those two together. Java was taking all the New Zealand condensed milk available. A great Eastern market awaited anybody enterprising enough to supply canned butter. Captain Macdonald estimated that every 3300 tourists would leave £1,000,000 in New Zealand. The comnany’s proposal was to stimulate interest in the Northern Hemisphere, organise tourists in large parties, and. persuade the Union Company to quicken the trip from America by five days.
