DROWNING ACCIDENT.
A DANGEROUS LOCALITY. An inquest concerning the death of Robert Johnston, four years of ;irr. a son of Mr ■Robert Johston. coal miner, of __ Green Island, who was drowned in the Kaikorai Stream at Green Island on Thursday evening. was held on Saturday before Mr J. R. Bartholomew. S.M.. sitting- as coroner. Robert Johnston, father of the hoy. staled that the last he saw his sou alive was at 4.50 p.m. He was then standing on a bridge wbieli spans the stream. About five "minutes after he missed thy bov. and began a search for him. but failed to find about 4.50 p.m. At 7 pm. he informed Constable Hamilton of the boy's disappearance. The constable dragged the stream and found the bodv at 8 n.m. in seven feet of water about three yards below the bridge. A verdict was returned that the boy had met his death by drowning as a result of falling off the bridge into the water. The Coroner added a rider that the locality was dangerous for children, and that the stream should be properly fenced and the bridge made safe. .
