PRISONERS SENTENCED. CPeb United Press 1 CHRISTCHURCH, November 2. Declaring that there were no redeeming features in tho case, Mr Justice Adams imposed a sentence of one year on Thomas Henry Mansley for bigamy. Counsel said that Mansley, three months after separation from his wife, in 1915, became infatuated with a second woman, and went through a marriage ceremony. Soon afterwards ho wont to Samoa and stayed there till 1920. James Barwald; aged 23, was sentenced to five years’ reformative retention for interfering with a girl of 15 years and nine months. Tho evidence showed that intimacy had existed for a long time, and the judge said that accused had debauched a child of tender years. Alfred Ernest Smith was sentenced to two years’ imprisonment lor theft, concurrent with a sentence he is now serving, and declared an habitual criminal. AUCKLAND, November 2. 1 At the Supremo Court, Frederick List, a middle-aged man, was placed on two years’ probation on charges of obtaining credit while he was an undischarged bankrupt. Thomas Clark, an elderly man, was sentenced to six months’ imprisonment for attempted unlawful carnal knowledge of a girl under tho age of 16 at Kaingaroa. FORGERY AND THEFT CHARGES. (Peb United Fresh Association.) WELLINGTON, November 2. After a fairly lengthy retirement yesterday the jury returned a verdict of not guilty in connection with charges of forgery against narry Patrick llodgins, formerly clerk in the Repatriation Department. Mr Justice Reid ordered him to be discharged. Ihe prisoner is yet to bo tried on a charge of theft, hut there is a possibility of a change of venue. Ho was admitted to bail.
